Product Description

How to Judge Whether the Battery Life of an Electric Aerial Work Platform is Normal

I. Standard Battery Life Reference (Industry General)

Under normal temperature, no load, flat ground and continuous lifting conditions:

  • Scissor lifts (6–12m)Fully charged → Normal continuous working time: 4–6 hoursOr 25–40 continuous lifting cycles
  • Articulating boom lifts / spider lifts (12–22m)Fully charged → Normal continuous working time: 3–5 hoursOr 20–30 continuous lifting cycles
  • If the actual performance is significantly lower than the above range, the battery life is basically abnormal.

II. Simplest Judgment: Check Power Consumption Rate

  • Fully charged (SOC 100%)The first 20% of power should be consumed the slowest; no obvious power drop during half an hour of normal operation.
  • Mid-range power (80%→30%)Power consumption is the most stable; 15%–25% power consumption per hour is normal.
  • Low power (below 30%)Power consumption speeds up slightly, but it should still support 30–60 minutes of safe operation.
  • Abnormal Performance
  • Power drops by 10%+ within a few minutes of startup
  • Power drops by more than 5% per lifting operation
  • Power jumps quickly from 30% to 0% with an alarm→ The battery life is basically judged as abnormal.

III. Check Cell Voltage Difference on BMS (Most Accurate)

Normal status for lithium iron phosphate batteries:

  • Cell voltage difference ≤ 0.05V (50mV) → Normal battery life
  • Voltage difference 0.05–0.1V → Slight degradation, slightly reduced battery life
  • Voltage difference >0.1V → Significantly shortened battery life
  • Voltage difference >0.2V → Severe cell imbalance, drastically reduced battery life
  • The larger the voltage difference, the less real battery capacity.

IV. Check SOH (State of Health)

Available on the vehicle display or background monitoring system:

  • SOH ≥ 85% → Normal battery life
  • SOH 70%–85% → Battery life reduced by about 20%–30%
  • SOH <70% → Seriously insufficient battery life, replacement required

V. Influence of Working Conditions (Critical)

Fast power consumption under the following conditions is normal, not a fault:

  • Low temperature (<10℃): Battery life reduced by 20%–50%
  • Full load, frequent lifting, steep slope driving
  • Platform lights, fans, horns and other accessories turned on
  • Internal leakage in hydraulic system, pressure build-up → Significantly increased power consumption
  • Judge battery life only after excluding these factors.

VI. Quick Self-Test Steps (Finish in 10 Minutes)

  1. Fully charge the battery and record SOC 100%
  2. With no load, perform 10 continuous cycles: lift up → lower down
  3. Check power consumption:

VII. Common Causes of Abnormal Battery Life

  • Battery aging and capacity degradation
  • Excessive cell voltage difference
  • Long-term storage with insufficient power
  • BMS protection lock-up, no cell balancing
  • High resistance in motor / hydraulic system, high power consumption
  • Low ambient temperature

VIII. One-Sentence Summary

At normal temperature and no load, the battery life is normal if:

fully charged operation lasts more than 3 hours, cell voltage difference <0.05V, and SOH >85%.

Please let me know:

  • Model (working height, scissor / articulating boom / spider lift)
  • Battery type (lead-acid / lithium-ion)
  • Actual working time on a full charge
