Product Description

Battery Maintenance for Electric Aerial Work Platforms

Key Points of Battery Maintenance for Electric Aerial Work Platforms

(Applicable to Lead-acid Batteries & Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries)

I. Daily Operation & Maintenance

  • Avoid deep dischargeTry not to discharge the battery below 20% during operation; full depletion is strictly prohibited.Stop aerial work immediately and return to the ground for charging when the low battery indicator is on.
  • Avoid heavy-duty, high-current operationDo not frequently perform sudden lifting, sudden lowering, or sharp on-site steering, so as to reduce instantaneous high-current discharge.Minimize continuous high-intensity operation under heavy load, climbing, or strong wind conditions.
  • Keep clean and dryRegularly wipe the battery surface and terminals to prevent short circuits or corrosion caused by dust, water, or oil.If terminals are oxidized or whitened, clean them and apply a small amount of conductive grease for protection.

II. Charging Specifications (Most Important)

  • Use original or matched chargersIt is forbidden to use fast chargers or non-standard chargers of different voltages or brands.Inspect plugs and cables for damage or overheating before charging.
  • Charging environment requirementsOptimal ambient temperature: 0°C to 40°C.Avoid charging in direct sunlight, rain, or flammable and explosive environments.
  • Correct charging habitsRecharge promptly after each use; do not store the battery in a depleted state.Disconnect power in time after full charge; avoid prolonged overcharging. In low winter temperatures: warm the battery indoors before charging.
  • Charging during long-term storageIf stored for more than 1 week: fully charge and disconnect the main power supply. If stored for more than 1 month: recharge once a month to maintain the state of charge between 60% and 80%.

III. Special Notes for Different Battery Types

Lead-acid Batteries

  • Regularly check the electrolyte level (excluding maintenance-free types). Add distilled water if low; tap water or mineral water is strictly prohibited.
  • Avoid long-term depletion, which easily causes sulfation and failure.

Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries (Mainstream)

  • Impact, puncture, and extrusion are strictly prohibited.
  • Do not force charging or discharging under extremely high or low temperatures.
  • Do not repeatedly force startup after BMS protection is triggered.

IV. Temperature Management

  • Below 0°C: Capacity decreases and charging acceptance deteriorates; high-current fast charging is prohibited.
  • Above 45°C: Charging and operation are prohibited, as it may trigger overheating protection and accelerate aging.
  • For outdoor storage in winter, move the machine indoors or provide proper insulation.

V. Regular Inspection (Recommended Monthly / Quarterly)

  • Inspect battery appearance for swelling, leakage, cracks, or deformation.
  • Check connections for loose screws, overheating, or ablation.
  • Test the full-charge operating time and compare it with the performance of a new battery.
  • Measure the static voltage and loaded voltage with a multimeter to judge capacity degradation.

VI. Core Principles to Extend Battery Life

Shallow charge & shallow discharge > Deep discharge

Timely charging > Storage in depleted state

Use at normal temperature > Exposure to high/low temperatures

Clean & dry > Humid & dusty
