The polymerization kettle is a tubular reactor with a large heat transfer area and a central tube. During operation, the internal circulation volume is increased by the high-speed rotation of the lower agitator, so as to ensure the uniform temperature at all points in the kettle. After halogenation, the curing rate of butyl rubber is greatly increased, the blending and curing properties with other rubbers are improved, and the adhesion is also significantly improved. Halogenated butyl rubber is especially suitable for making inner sealing layer of tubeless tire, sidewall and adhesive of radial tire, in addition to general use of butyl rubber.

Butyl rubber has good air tightness. It also has heat resistance, ozone resistance, aging resistance, chemical resistance, shock absorption and electrical insulation properties. It has good resistance to sunlight and ozone, and can be exposed to animal or vegetable oil or oxidizable chemicals. The inner tube of all kinds of tires, the airtight layer of tubeless tires, and various sealing gaskets are used as the lining, pipeline, and conveyor belt of corrosive liquid containers in the chemical industry, and as waterproof materials in agriculture.

Butyl rubber has short double bonds in its molecular structure and high dispersion density of side chain methyl, so it has excellent characteristics of receiving vibration and impact energy. The rebound characteristics of butyl rubber are not more than 20% within a wide temperature range (- 30 to - 50 ℃), which clearly shows that the ability of butyl rubber to receive mechanical functions is superior to other rubbers. The damping property of butyl rubber at high deformation rate is inherent in the chain segment of polyisobutylene. To a large extent, it is not affected by application temperature, degree of unsaturation, vulcanization profile and formula changes. Therefore, butyl rubber was an ideal material for sound insulation and vibration reduction at that time.
