The temperature spectrum generated by the night vision detector element is converted into electrical pulses. These pulses are transmitted to a signal processing unit, a circuit board integrated with a precision chip, which converts the information emitted by the detector element into data that the display can recognize. The signal processing unit transmits information to the display, thereby presenting various colors on the display. The color intensity is determined by the emission intensity of infrared rays. The pulses transmitted from the detector element are combined to generate an image.

The night vision instrument uses a special lens that can focus the infrared rays emitted by objects in the field of vision. The phased array on the infrared detector element can scan for converging light. The detector element can generate a very detailed temperature pattern map, called a temperature spectrum map. In about 1/30 second, the detector array can obtain temperature information and produce a temperature spectrum. This information is obtained from thousands of detection points in the field of view of the detector array.
