Impact corrosion and abrasion of cooling tubes usually occur only on copper alloy tubes, which is a type of localized corrosion. This is due to the high intensity of flow turbulence on the metal surface at the corrosion site, which is sufficient to cause mechanical or electrochemical damage to the oxidation protective film. It has characteristics similar to pitting corrosion, and its shape evolution is often affected by local flow conditions, and is described as horseshoe shaped, crescent shaped, and groove shaped pitting corrosion.
